Agong praises display of patriotism, unity on National Day celebrations

This is also the royals’ final year celebrating National Day as Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong

KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has praised the contingents involved and the attendees of yesterday’s National Day parade in Putrajaya, for displaying patriotic values and their love for the country.

In a statement issued by Comptroller of the Royal Household Major General Datuk Indera Zahari Mohd Ariffin today, His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah said he was proud of the spirit of unity and patriotism displayed at the parade and other similar events nationwide. 

“His Majesty also thanked citizens of various races who had shown up and joined in on festivities while supporting the event to commemorate a historical day.

“His Majesty hopes that harmony within the nation will be solidified by such spirits, which directly reflect on the close relationship between the races in Malaysia.” 

The Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah also congratulated the government for hosting a lively and extraordinary celebration. 

“The National Day celebrations this year means a lot to His Majesty and (Tunku Azizah) as it is their final year celebrating the occasion as Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong. The festivities are a sweet memory that will remain in the minds (of both).”

Yesterday, more than 100,000 people from all walks of life gathered at Dataran Putrajaya from as early as 1am to express their love for Malaysia on its 66th National Day. 

The King and Tunku Azizah were greeted by loud cheers and applause from the crowd, which they later graced, pushing aside royal protocol to shake hands and chat with parade visitors. – September 1, 2023
