KUALA LUMPUR – The police will be taking a statement from former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin next Monday after reports were lodged over his political “fatwa” made during campaigning in Johor Bahru.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the appointment to take Muhyiddin’s statement is set for September 11 at his office in Mida building here.

He added that the statement will be taken by the Bukit Aman Classified Crimes Investigation Unit, according to Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“PDRM confirms investigating Muhyiddin for claiming that voting for former Johor speaker Suhaizan Kaiat is ‘haram’. Two police reports have been received over the statement so far,” said Shuhaily in last night’s statement.

Muhyiddin, who is Perikatan Nasional chairman, issued the “fatwa” during his speech at a ceramah in Kempas, Johor Bahru.

Meanwhile, Shuhaily said the investigation into PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang questioning the authority of the Pardons Board has been completed.

“The investigation paper will be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers in line with Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution soon,” he said, adding that the investigation was the only one against Hadi throughout the campaigning period that started on August 28.

On August 28, Shuhaily said Hadi would be investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. – September 6, 2023
