Sarawak’s Annuar Rapaee springs into action after woman’s mid-flight asthma attack

State deputy minister’s medical skills come in handy on Kuching-KL flight

10:32 PM MYT

SIBU – Sarawak deputy minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee’s medical skills as a doctor were once again called upon when he attended to a medical emergency onboard a Malaysia Airlines flight today.

As a passenger of MAS flight MH2521 from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur, the state’s deputy education minister responded to a mid-flight announcement by a flight attendant who had asked for a doctor.

After introducing himself to the flight attendant and having his identity confirmed, Dr Annuar was brought to a female passenger who was suffering from breathing difficulties.

“I immediately came to the female passenger who was suffering from an asthma attack. She needed an inhaler or nebuliser and luckily a passenger had an inhaler,” Dr Annuar, who is a cardiologist, shared in a Facebook post today.

After a few puffs of the inhaler, the woman still had breathing difficulties, but her situation was rectified with the use of a nebuliser from the emergency kits onboard the MAS flight, he said, thanking the airline for the foresight to have such medical supplies on its flights.

“After that I had to make four copies of the medical report. Thankfully she arrived at KLIA safely,” he added.

The comment section of his Facebook post was subsequently flooded with praise. – September 6, 2023
