KUALA LUMPUR – Police have submitted their investigation papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) on former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s statements in relation to the 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said investigation papers in Dr Mahathir’s case were handed over to the AGC on Tuesday (September 5), while Hadi’s investigation papers were submitted earlier today.
Razarudin, who spoke to reporters at the Royal Malaysian Police College in Kuala Lumpur, stressed that police will take serious action against any individual found to be threatening 3R values.
“Any racial or religious issue that jeopardises the unity of the multicultural society in Malaysia will be investigated.
“Police will also take strict action against those who initiate attacks against the Malay rulers, regardless of their background.”
The investigation paper on Dr Mahathir is related to his statements that contained alleged elements of contempt towards the royal institution.
On June 3, police completed their probe against the nonagenarian after videos surfaced online of Dr Mahathir asserting that Malays cannot rely on Malay rulers to protect them.
Dr Mahathir, who reportedly also said that he has no respect for the rulers, was questioned under Section 124B of the Penal Code for alleged activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
Meanwhile, Hadi’s investigation paper is related to the Marang MP’s statement allegedly disputing the power of the Pardons Board in a campaign speech in Muar, Johor, last month.
An investigation had subsequently been opened against Hadi under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
In his speech, Hadi had claimed that under Islamic principles, the party that has the right to grant a pardon is a victim’s family members, not the Pardons Board. – September 7, 2023
