KUALA LUMPUR – More than 10,000 #KeretapiSarong23 participants today descended on Dataran Merdeka here dressed in colourful traditional outfits in conjunction with Hari Malaysia.
Some of them travelled from across the country to participate in the event, while some took the opportunity to indulge in some sightseeing with family and friends.
Malaysians even took the opportunity to introduce the festivities to their overseas friends.
Meanwhile, in Johor Bahru around 600 people took to the streets in Sg Segget to participate in Keretapi Sarong. In Ipoh, around 500 participants from Perak, Kedah and Penang gathered at the Ipoh train station.
Keretapi Sarong is a flash mob event to celebrate Malaysia Day, where participants dress in their sarongs or traditional attire.
It also emphasises the use of public transportation in Malaysia, especially the rail system – hence the name “Keretapi,” which means “train” in Bahasa Malaysia. The event which first began in 2017 has been an annual affair since. – September 16, 2023
