Limbang floods lead to 178 residents evacuated

Relief centre opened yesterday after three days of continuous rain, official says

LIMBANG – A total of 178 people from Kg Baru, Medamit near here, were evacuated to a flood relief centre yesterday due to floods following continuous rain for the past three days.

Limbang Civil Defence officer Mirwan Shah Masri, in a statement today, said  Dewan Masyarakat Medamit was opened at 4.30pm yesterday to accommodate the flood victims. 

The evacuees are from 61 families, he said. 

Based on the iHydro website yesterday morning, the water level at Ukong Station in Limbang exceeded the danger level of 6.5m at  7.17m, but was receding. 

The water level at Long Teru Station in Miri Division was 7.48m, which was slightly above the warning level of 7m. 

Three stations recorded alert levels, namely Sg Daussan Station in Mukah (6.22m), Sg Salim Station in Sibu (2.7 m) and Marudi Station in Miri (2.86m). – September 21, 2023
