FAM eyes potential bilateral cooperation with Germany

FAM discussed with German Football Federation to further strengthen the Malaysian football landscape

KUALA LUMPUR — The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is looking at the possibility of bilateral football cooperation between Malaysia and Germany.

FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said the matter was discussed with German Football Federation president Bernd Neuendorf in an effort to further strengthen the Malaysian football landscape when he attended the 30th Asean Football Federation (AFF) Congress 2023 in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam today.

Also present were AFF president Major General Khiev Sameth and attended by representatives of other AFF affiliates.

Hamidin said in the discussion both parties shared views on issues of mutual interest for the positive benefit of Malaysian and German football.

“The main mission is to create closer cooperation by sharing expertise and resources, while at the same time supporting the development of football in our respective countries.

“This is a great opportunity for us to exchange experiences and expertise in different aspects including national teams, grassroots football, youth development and player performance,” said Hamidin.

Datuk Haji Hamidin, who is also a Fifa Council Member, had the opportunity to meet the South African Football Association president Dr Danny Jordaan, the Royal Netherlands Football Association general-secretary Gijs de Jong, and the public relations and CEO office of the Royal Belgian Football Association Hedelli Sassi.

“I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to Germany, South Africa, the Netherlands, and Belgium for valuable time to discuss collaboration possibilities with Malaysia. 

“I am sure that this collaboration will be beneficial in the long term,” added Hamidin in a statement issued by FAM today.

The congress included the fourth council meeting for the Federation’s 2022/2026 term, attended by FAM general-secretary Datuk Noor Azman Rahman. — October 1, 2023.
