Budget 2024: hawker centres, public markets to receive RM110 mil for upgrades

KUALA LUMPUR – The government has allocated RM110 million to enhance and restore hawker centres and public market infrastructure across 150 local council areas. 

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his commitment to making Malaysia renowned for clean and safe business facilities, hawkers, and stalls. 

When tabling Budget 2024 in Parliament today, Anwar said an additional RM10 million will be allocated to assist 10,000 small hawkers and stalls in improving their hygiene standards. 

Furthermore, an estimated 4,000 new, comfortable, and secure commercial space units will be constructed in the localities, backed by an allocation of RM50 million. 

Anwar also announced that Majlis Amanah Rakyat, Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd, the Urban Development Authority and Kuala Lumpur City Hall will also undergo facility upgrades. – October 13, 2023
