HANGZHOU — Eddy Bernard won silver in men’s 100m T44 (physical impairment) at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games today to give the Malaysian athletics camp their second medal.

In the final at Huanglong Sports Centre Stadium, Eddy clocked 11.86s, just 0.26s behind the winner, Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Indika Gamage.

Saudi Arabia’s Nour Mohammed S Asana took bronze in 12.07s.

The 22-year-old athlete from Beluran, Sabah had failed to qualify for the final in the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games.

“I was targeting gold but a false start by another runner disturbed my concentration.

“Nevertheless, I am satisfied with this silver and will now fully focus on the next event,” he said.

He will be defending the gold in the long jump T44 on Friday.

Noor Imanina Idris won the first medal for the athletics squad by grabbing bronze in women’s shot put F20 (intellectual impairment) yesterday. — October 24, 2023
