KUALA LUMPUR – Unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil has hit out at PAS for labelling recent statements by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on receiving threats and warnings as “alarmist”.
Fahmi, who is also communications and digital minister, implied that the label issued by PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan is ironic, as PAS had previously demonstrated “alarmist” principles.
“As a party, PAS itself is quite alarmist,” the minister told reporters here.
“We saw how in the months leading up to the state elections, (PAS had propagated) that voting for certain parties would have hell breaking loose across the country.
“Before he (Takiyuddin) talks about anything else, I think he should put a mirror up close to his face (to) have a good long look at himself and his party (PAS).”
The Lembah Pantai MP said this during a press conference after the launch of Digital Nasional Bhd’s 5G Experience Centre at the lobby of TRX Exchange 106, here, today.
Earlier today, Takiyuddin had taken issue with the prime minister’s disclosure that he had received threats, warnings, and criticism from those supporting the Israel regime amid the Zionist state’s escalating conflict in Gaza.
In a statement, Takiyuddin, who is also Kota Bharu MP, questioned the “baseless and imaginary” allegations, asserting that if such claims are true, Anwar should summon the relevant ambassadors to issue a diplomatic protest note.
Meanwhile, in Parliament today, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir said it is for the best that Putrajaya not reveal who had threatened Anwar.
The minister added that Anwar has reiterated that Malaysia is not shaken by such threats and will remain firm in its support for Palestine.
In a speech during the Malaysia Stands with Palestine gathering held at Axiata Arena on Tuesday, Anwar said he will not yield to threats from “parties in the United States and Europe” as long as he has the mandate of the people.
“Malaysia, a free and independent nation, will persist in its quest for justice and freedom for the Palestinian people,” said Anwar. – October 26, 2023
