KUALA LUMPUR – PPB Properties has engaged a team of consultants to conduct a comprehensive structural assessment of the Megah Rise Mall following yesterday’s ceiling collapse incident.

In a statement issued last night, CEO Low Eng Hooi, who expressed deep regret over the event, said the team will also implement necessary repairs and reinforcements.

“Public safety is our priority. We are committed to implementing rigorous safety measures to protect our community and prevent similar incidents in the future,” he said.

Apologising for any inconvenience caused to its patrons, tenants and staff, Low said the affected areas including the main entrance, adjacent pet-friendly lifts and Kheng Wah Kopitiam are closed until further notice.

“Nevertheless, the rest of the mall continues to operate as usual.”

Recalling yesterday’s incident, Low also said all three individuals who suffered minor injuries have received the necessary medical attention.

“Our thoughts are with those affected by today (yesterday)’s incident. We are fully cooperating with all relevant authorities to manage the situation as swiftly as possible.

“The affected area was promptly evacuated, and debris has been cleared,” he added.

Yesterday, three individuals sustained minor injuries following the collapse of the car porch ceiling at the entrance of Megah Rise Mall in Petaling Jaya.

According to the mall’s management, the incident occurred at around 3pm and it attributed the ceiling collapse to strong winds and heavy rainfall. – October 29, 2023
