KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia will determine its participation in the one to two days for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation organisation’s (Apec) Leaders’ Meeting scheduled for November in San Francisco, US.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia is coordinating with other member countries on the matter, and that most of them will be attending the conference which is scheduled to take place this month.

“We are coordinating with the countries involved (with the event). So far, most of them will be going,” he told reporters after launching the Malaysia Digital Expo (MDX2023) at the Mitec exhibition centre here today. – November 6, 2023

Last week, during the Prime Minister’s Question Time at the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar had explained that Malaysia had been liaising with other Asian countries including China to determine their stance on whether to boycott the Apec meeting or otherwise.

He further explained feedback from these countries will enable Malaysia to determine its stand in line with the stand made by the said countries.

Anwar was earlier reported to have been set to led the Malaysian delegation for the Apec meeting.

In addition to the Apec leaders’ meeting, Asean leaders with the exception of Myanmar have also been invited to attend a separate meeting by US president Joe Biden.

Established in 1989, Apec is a global economic forum to encourage increasing ties within the Asia-Pacific region. — November 6, 2023
