KUALA LUMPUR – The National Sports Council (NSC) is reviewing the implementation of contributions to the Employment Provident Fund (EPF) and the Social Security Organisation (Sosco) by Podium Programme athletes beginning January 2024.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said this during her closing speech in Dewan Rakyat today.

Hannah added that NSC had implemented an allowance scheme for national athletes since 2006 and has constantly improved it to ensure the welfare of the country’s athletes is taken cared of.

The scheme is based on the achievements of the athletes in international sporting events like the SEA, Asian, Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

The NSC board had recently approved a review of the training allowance scheme for national athletes which emphasises on their welfare and well-being.

“NSC is examining the implementation of EPF and Socso contributions for all athletes under the Podium Programme starting January 2024.

“This is a game-changer for our athletes because it has never been implemented before to protect the welfare of athletes where they will receive EPF and Socso starting next year,” she said. – November 21, 2023
