PKR Youth lodges police report against RM5 mil bounty on Anwar’s life

Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim says clip containing death threat posted due to ‘hatred’ following approved Coldplay concert

PUTRAJAYA – PKR Youth has lodged a police report against a social media user for allegedly making death threats and putting up a RM5 million bounty for the killings of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his cabinet members.

Deputy PKR Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said that the report was lodged by a representative from the party’s Youth wing at the Putrajaya police headquarters at around 1.40pm today.

“The report was made against a video posted on TikTok where a user by the name of @jaiadani89 made death threats against the prime minister and offered RM5 million to anyone who manages to kill (Anwar),” Kamil said during a press conference at the party’s annual congress, here, today.

“There were many comments (in the post) that not only threatened the prime minister’s safety, but also touched on sensitive racial and religious issues,” he said, noting that the video has since been removed.

Urging authorities to investigate the matter, Kamil, who is also Anwar’s political secretary, said that “hatred” was the reason why the video had been posted by the user.

According to screenshots of the video shared with members of the media, the user in question appears to have taken issue with the government’s decision to allow British rock group Coldplay’s performance at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium earlier this week.

The user claimed that the concert should not have been held amid the ongoing Palestine-Israel war, where Gaza citizens continue to face threats to their life due to Israeli attacks.

He also promised to transfer RM5 million to anyone who can “shoot dead” Anwar, ministers under his administration and those associated with PKR’s fellow Pakatan Harapan coalition member and unity government component DAP. – November 26, 2023
