KUALA LUMPUR – Two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers and a former officer from the agency claimed trial this morning to robbing a foreign businessman of almost RM1 million.
The trio were charged in separate sessions courts here, for the crime allegedly committed in December 2021. It had grabbed national headlines with the news that three individuals had introduced themselves as MACC officers at the victim’s doorstep before robbing him.
Muhammad Haffiz Mohd Radzi and Mohd Fahmee Mohamad Nor, who are still MACC officers, pleaded not guilty before judge Izralizam Sanusi.
Former officer Azwan Asli pleaded the same before judge Siti Aminah Ghazali.
The trio are accused of robbing a businessman named Kun Gao, who is a Chinese national, of RM925,960, a luggage bag and a Louis Vuitton bag at the Ritz Carlton Residences in Kuala Lumpur at around 12pm on December 10, 2021.
The charge under Section 395 of the Penal Code carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in jail and whipping.
Judge Izralizam granted RM12,000 bail each to Haffiz and Fahmee, while judge Siti Aminah gave RM10,000 bail to Azwan.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Izalina Abdullah had suggested that both courts offer RM30,000 bail for each accused.
However, lawyer S. Ravinchandran, who appeared for Haffiz, and R. Vikraman, who represented Fahmee and Azwan, pleaded for lower bail for their clients.
The three accused were also ordered to surrender their passports to the court and to report themselves to the nearest police station once a month. They must also not harass prosecution witnesses.
They will have their cases consolidated and heard before judge Izralizam, who fixed February 5 for case management. – December 13, 2023
