KUALA LUMPUR – The appointment of Wanita PKR vice-head Sangetha Jayakumar to the Port Klang Authority’s board of directors does not go against the party’s principles, says Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi reiterated that the party was only against political appointments to government-linked companies, saying that there was a difference between statutory bodies and GLCs.

“Sangetha’s appointment is not a problem because it (the port authority) is not a GLC,” said Fahmi after launching the new OasisEye Specialists eye hospital wing here today.

Fahmi also said this matter would be brought to the cabinet in response to public calls for an explanation regarding Sangetha’s appointment.

The appointment was also announced by Wanita PKR head Fadhlina Sidek via a poster uploaded on the party wing’s Facebook on January 7.

“Congratulations on your appointment to the board of directors of the Port Klang Authority.

“Wishing you all the best in carrying out your duties,” said Fadhlina.

Sangetha was criticised on social media for her previous comments about the Perikatan Nasional government allegedly appointing party supporters to GLC positions.

The Port Klang Authority is a statutory corporation established on July 1, 1963, to take over the administration of Port Klang from the Malayan Railway Administration. – January 14, 2024
