‘Klang is not Colombia…Gombak, PJ, Kajang have higher crime rates’

IGP denies claims of it being home to violent crimes, only some parts of city affected

KLANG – Top cop Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has slammed reports of equating Klang to South American country Colombia, with the connotation of being home to violent crimes.

“Klang is not Colombia, it is Bandar Diraja (royal city),” he said, refuting the perception of Klang being a dangerous place.

He added that not all of Klang has a high crime rate, as only pockets of the city are affected.

“If we compare Klang Selatan and Klang Utara, Klang Utara has a higher crime rate.

“Gombak, Petaling Jaya and Kajang recorded more crime cases compared to Klang,” he told reporters during a walkabout at Pandamaran market here this morning with his deputy Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

Razarudin added that discussions were held with Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain to work on lowering the crime rate here.

“The CID will make arrests, drug and contraband busts, conduct operations on arcades as well as crime prevention measures to help clean up Klang’s image.”

Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah will proclaim Klang’s city status tomorrow.

Last July, Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming said the Klang Municipal Council will be upgraded to Klang City Council following the proclamation. – February 4, 2024
