Fadillah’s ministry renamed to Energy Transition and Water Transformation

Ministry to use acronym ‘Petra’ based on its Bahasa Malaysia name

10:36 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Energy Transition and Public Utilities Ministry has been renamed the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry, or Petra.

The cabinet approved the new name at its weekly meeting yesterday, the ministry said in a statement.

The renaming had been proposed by its minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also deputy prime minister.

The acronym, Petra, reflects the ministry’s name in Bahasa Malaysia, which is Kementerian Peralihan Tenaga dan Transformasi Air.

The acronym was selected from 105 proposals submitted in a contest among ministry staff as well as employees of the agencies under its purview.

The ministry was carved out from the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry under a cabinet reshuffle in December last year.

The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry is under Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. – February, 8, 2024
