KUALA LUMPUR – Superapp Grab has introduced its “Women-Passengers Preferred Beta” feature effective today, to increase the chances of women drivers who have opted in to be matched with only women passengers.
To complement this, women passengers are encouraged to update their details in their Grab app.
Grab Malaysia managing director Adelene Foo said in a statement that it is part of the company’s bid to keep users safe while on the road.
Also, the company expanded its #SisBoleh programme to include onboarding and training sessions as well as building a women partners-only online community.
Grab Malaysia is offering free public service vehicle classes – usually priced at RM150 – for women drivers Petaling Jaya, Penang and Johor Bahru from March 8 to 31 this year.
The onboarding and training sessions are designed for women, such as in-car safety training, managing difficult situations with passengers and car maintenance, according to a statement released today.
As for the online community, it is to encourage women to mutually share and discuss topics more relevant to them as well as frequent on-ground engagements geared for women to network and build a stronger bond.
The announcement was made in conjunction with the International Women’s Day celebrations Grab Malaysia organised in Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Klang Valley for its women drivers and delivery partners.
#SisBoleh is a women empowerment programme introduced by Grab Malaysia last year, aimed at providing support, peace of mind, and a focus on safety on the Grab platform as women drivers or delivery partners.
Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad and Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Ja’afar @ Ismail were at the celebrations held in the district.
“The #SisBoleh programme is commendable for its comprehensive support for women.
“By addressing safety concerns, building a nurturing community of strong and independent women, and breaking down barriers, Grab is setting an exemplary standard for what it means to truly be an inclusive platform that supports women’s participation in the gig economy,” said Noraini in her speech.
The International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8. – March 5, 2024
