KUALA LUMPUR – The social media account, The Ahmadi Religion of Light and Peace, which has been spreading deviant teachings, was no longer accessible this morning.

Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he has contacted Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar about the matter.

“I checked the (social media) account this morning, and it is no longer accessible. Before this, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) notified them that they had received views and reports from the Islamic Development Department about the deviant teachings.

“Several actions have been taken, including an investigation, to ensure the evidence is not affected.

“So, after several actions were taken, the MCMC received a go-ahead from the religious minister, and today I see that the account is no longer accessible,” he told the media after the Back to School programme with MCMC and Shopee at PPR Seri Pantai here, today.

MCMC state coordination division head Bukhari Yahya and MCMC Federal Territories director Hanita Izam Abdul Rahman were also present.

A total of 200 recipients from the Lembah Pantai community received school vouchers worth RM100.

Yesterday, a non-governmental organisation urged the government, particularly the MCMC, to close or block the accounts of individuals disseminating the teachings of The Ahmadi Religion of Light and Peace on social media.

Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said that action needed to be taken to curb the ongoing spread of The Ahmadi teachings, especially among the young.

Earlier, Na’im clarified that the teachings of The Ahmadi are inconsistent with Islamic shariah.

He said that his party is committed to promptly removing any social media content related to these teachings to safeguard the community from potential impacts.

Previously, a TikTok account believed to belong to the bishop or the head of The Ahmadi teachings went viral, receiving a strong response during a live broadcast.

The account currently boasts over 30,000 followers. – March 9, 2024
