KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Lumpur City FC (KL City) and Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC) failed to clear 50% payment of salary arrears for the year 2023 on March 15, as was set by the Malaysian Football League’s (MFL) independent First Instance Body (FIB).

MFL added that KL City had recently gone through a change of management, and the club’s patron, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, has stated that he will solve the issue of unpaid wages as soon as possible.

“Besides that, the FIB has also received an official letter from Kuala Lumpur City Council, which stated it will channel aid to settle KL City’s salary arrears for the year 2023 before the end of the month.

“Meanwhile, KDA FC has submitted proof of payment totalling RM600,000 as partial payment of its salary arrears; however, this does not fulfil 50% of the total overdue salary as was set by the FIB.

“But the FIB has received proof of financial evidence of the source of funds, which KDA FC will receive soon.

“Although the FIB gave room for KL City and KDA FC to settle the salary arrears due to the high commitment of the two clubs, the body is ready to impose action on the two clubs to ensure that compliance with its directive is respected and taken seriously.

“If KL City and KDA FC fail to settle all salary arrears by the second deadline, that is, March 30, a penalty of three points for the 2024-2025 Super League season and a fine of RM50,000 will be imposed immediately based on the MFL Club Licencing Regulations 2023 Edition, Article 2.4 (c)Licencing Sanctions,” said FIB chairman Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif in a statement today.

The licencing body will also reassess the club’s licence status if it does not comply with the second deadline for payment of salary arrears and does not have strong finances to continue competing in the upcoming Malaysian League season. – March 20, 2024
