Company director fails to come forward after claiming ownership of lost and found RM500,000

Despite claiming the money, he has provided various reasons for failing to appear

KUALA LUMPUR – The director of a company who claimed ownership of luggage containing cash exceeding RM500,000, that was found in the parking lot of a shopping centre in Damansara last Wednesday, has yet to come forward to give a statement, police said. 

Speaking to Scoop, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said the money in question has not been claimed as the director, who is in his late 40s, failed to appear at the Damansara police station despite previously claiming ownership of the cash in the luggage. 

“To date, only one report was received at 11.30pm last Thursday claiming that the money was business funds.

“The Damansara police station chief has called the complainant to provide a statement but the person failed to appear, citing various reasons such as attending meetings and illness. 

“There have been no new developments in the investigation,” he said.

Last Wednesday, security guards at a shopping centre in Damansara were surprised to find luggage containing cash exceeding RM500,000 in the parking lot of the premises. 

Several hours after the press conference regarding the discovery of the money on Thursday, the police confirmed receiving a report from a company claiming ownership of the luggage containing cash. 

Meanwhile, the security guard who found the money received recognition from his employer, A5 Security Service.

Sherpa Dawa, 39, a Nepalese national, received the award for his honesty in returning the cash in the luggage.

The brief award presentation ceremony was shared through the company’s official Facebook page yesterday.

“Dawa’s unwavering commitment to his duties and extraordinary honesty. Recently, he found a bag containing money left unattended and immediately reported it, demonstrating true responsibility and integrity.
