Umno’s Akmal now trains guns on Aliff Syukri over ‘obscene’ Raya music video

Youth chief calls for boycott of entrepreneur’s products for hurting Muslim sensitivities

KUALA LUMPUR – After calling for a nationwide boycott of the KK Mart convenience store chain, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has now called to reject Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri’s latest music video teaser released in conjunction with the coming Hari Raya celebration.

Describing the dance moves in the video as obscene, Dr Akmal said the controversial celebrity entrepreneur lacked sensitivity towards the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan.

The video, he said, was not “out of the box” or innovative content; rather, it had “no brains” (lacked substance).

“I just saw Datuk Aliff Syukri’s video. I don’t know if those are called ‘squid’ or ‘worm’ moves. The unpleasant shuddering dance moves on the table; I feel it is not sensitive at all in this month of Ramadan,” he said in a video posted on Facebook today.

Dr Akmal pointed out that this was not the first time the entrepreneur had committed such an act as Aliff Syukri had previously released a similar video.

“This is not the first time. In fact, in 2022, Datuk Aliff faced legal charges for the same offence, and the case remains unresolved to this day.

“Shouldn’t you be mindful of the sensitivities of Muslims throughout the month of Ramadan?

Dr Akmal also said it was clear that Aliff Syukri’s disregard for sensitivities in attire and dance moves reflected a lack of consideration for others’ feelings.

“If you want to release a video, if you want to release a song, release it, but don’t release a song and also a video that hurts people’s hearts and eyes,” he said.

The Merlimau assemblyman also urged the Communications and Multimedia Commission to block Aliff Syukri’s video on all online platforms and called for strict legal action to be taken against him.

“We asked Malaysians to boycott KK Mart for disregarding the sensitivities of Muslims in our country. Now we urge all Muslims to teach a hard lesson by boycotting all products associated with Datuk Aliff Syukri,” he said.

In the one-minute-25-second video, Aliff Syukri is seen soaking in a jacuzzi filled with soap bubbles, wearing a “singlet” and what looks like shorts.

The jacuzzi was surrounded by five male dancers, each displaying a gentle demeanour and dressed in Baju Melayu. The video has since received flak from social media users. – April 2, 2024
