Don’t be always angry, let Sabah’s beauty cool your heart, DAP leader tells Akmal

Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin says state’s people live together peacefully

SANDAKAN – DAP has invited Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to take in Sabah’s calm surroundings and enjoy food suitable for all races, so he can stop “being angry always”.

“I hope that the calm environment and beautiful views in the ‘Land Below the Wind’ can cool his heart. If YB Akmal has the time, he can stop by at Kota Kinabalu to break fast at restaurants here that serve food for all races.

“We are all living in harmony and peacefully under the same roof,” DAP central executive committee member and Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin told Scoop.

Chan, who is also deputy plantation and commodities minister, said he was confident police would investigate the case professionally according to the existing procedures.

“As per the wise advice of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, it is only wise that we don’t take advantage and play with a sensitive issue to provoke the people for personal gain.”

Earlier today, Dr Akmal was detained by police upon his arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport to have his statement recorded at the state capital’s district police headquarters.

He said he was puzzled that the statement had to be taken in Sabah, given he had never made any statement regarding KK Mart’s “Allah”-printed socks controversy in the state.

Dr Akmal also denied his detention was because he was barred from entering the state, saying that the detention was to record his statement about a talk he had given in Kelantan.

Earlier this week, Sarawak and Sabah activists called for Dr Akmal to be barred from entering both Bornean states for allegedly disturbing the racial and religious harmony in the country, after the Umno Youth chief’s continuous calls to boycott KK Mart. – April 5, 2024
