Aidilfitri a painful reminder for mother after losing another son on eve of Raya

KUALA LUMPUR – Aidilfitri is a joyous celebration for many, but for a mother in Melaka, it serves as a painful reminder of her children’s passing in accidents just before the festival.

“Two years ago, my elder son passed away (in a road accident) on Hari Raya Eve. Last night, his younger brother also died in a road accident. No one understands what our family is going through,” said 48-year-old Aslina Abu.

Aslina is the mother of Muhammad Amin Fakhrullah Mohd Faiez, a 19-year-old teenager who tragically died in an accident on Jalan Tg Minyak, Bukit Rambai, yesterday.

In the accident, which occurred at about 1am, the seventh of 11 siblings died on the spot after the Yamaha Y15 motorcycle he was riding collided with a Honda City that suddenly entered the opposite lane, according to Kosmo.

Previously, Aslina lost her fifth child, Muhammad Nasululllah, two years ago. He died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a car making a U-turn on the double line at Pantai Puteri.

“His brother also died at the age of 19 due to an accident. We lost both of our children on Raya Eve, which traumatised my husband and me, making us reluctant to let our children go out on Raya Eve.

“People tell us to be patient, but they don’t understand the depth of our sorrow. The Hari Raya celebration doesn’t hold any meaning for us as a family anymore,” she said when met by reporters at her home in Pantai Kundor last night.

She recalled how Amin had given her one last kiss on the cheek before leaving the house with a smile.

She had also asked him to put on her sweater, which was what he was wearing when he died.

Aslina said that she and her family must come to terms with Amin’s death; however, she urged police to ensure justice for her son. – April 10, 2024
