KUALA LUMPUR – At least six people are dead, including the slasher, and seven injured after a stabbing spree at Bondi Junction shopping centre in Sydney.

Among the dead was the man who went on a stabbing spree before being shot dead by police.

“One last person died at the hospital,” a New South Wales police spokesman told AFP.

So far, the police have said an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the motive, reported Sydney Morning Herald.

Meanwhile, a video has been circulating showing a man wearing shorts and a sports jersey jogging inside the mall, carrying a knife.

When the stabbing spree started, people started running out of the mall as shops pulled their shutters down.

In response, New South Wales police assistant commissioner Anthony Cooke said that although the motive of the stabbing was not immediately clear, terrorism could not be ruled out yet.

“I do not know at this stage who he is. You would understand that this is quite raw. Inquiries are very new and we are continuing to make attempts to identify the offender in this matter,” he told the media.

The seven injured, including a young child, who are suffering from traumatic injuries, have been taken to various hospitals.

Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his grief and shock at the incident.

“Tragically, multiple casualties have been reported and the first thoughts of all Australians are with those affected and their loved ones,” he tweeted. – April 13, 2024
