BJAK not approved to carry out road tax renewal: RTD

Dept says online platform’s statement claiming to be ‘audited, validated and approved by RTD’ is untrue amid several complaints lodged against it

PUTRAJAYA – The Transport Ministry and the Road Transport Department (RTD) have not approved online insurance renewal platform BJAK Sdn Bhd (BJAK) to carry out road tax renewal transactions.

RTD, in a statement today, said that it takes a serious view of the advertisement issued by BJAK through bjak.my website and their social media accounts on motor vehicle license renewals, online road tax transaction services, and a free road tax programme.

RTD said a statement displayed by BJAK through its website that “Online road tax renewal at BJAK has been audited, validated and approved by RTD” is untrue and misleading to the public.

“This department has also received a number of complaints from the public including road tax renewals carried out through the BJAK website did not update the road tax validity period,” the statement said.

The department also explained that there is no system integration between the RTD system (MySikap) and the system used by BJAK.

At the same time, it said the department also received complaints from dissatisfied members of the public who had to pay additional charges imposed by the platform when renewing their road tax.

“This department would like to emphasise that neither the Transport Ministry nor RTD have approved additional charges currently imposed by BJAK on its customers.

“RTD wants to encourage road tax renewal transactions through RTD counters, kiosks, RTD mobile counters, MyJPJ applications, RTD public portals and RTD business partner platforms (Pos Malaysia, MyEG and Puspakom) only,” he said.

The department clarified that the BJAK carried out its operation related to road tax renewal transactions without RTD’s permission.

Therefore, the public is advised to be careful with any platform offering illegal road tax renewal services to prevent fraud and losses – unless they have checked with RTD for more information.

“We are committed to ensuring that the safety and wellbeing of the public, especially RTD customers, are always maintained,” it said.

Any official complaints can be channelled via RTD’s official complaint portal. – May 6, 2024
