Malaysia opens doors to Thai tourist buses: Loke

Decision covers Thai bus operators intending to bring tourists from Thailand into Malaysia, particularly via border states like Kelantan, Kedah

KUALA LUMPUR – Tourist buses are now allowed to enter Malaysia, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

This applies to Thai bus operators seeking to bring tourists from Thailand to Malaysia via Kelantan, Kedah, and other border states, he added.

“At a recent meeting, it was decided that any bus from Thailand would now be permitted to enter.

“But they must first obtain temporary permits before entering Malaysia,” he told reporters after launching Phase 1 of the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport project here today.

The tour bus operators must provide complete information on the details of the tour package, the number of passengers and the accommodation location.

Loke, however, said Thai van operators are prohibited from entering Malaysia.

In March last year, the states bordering Thailand – specifically Kedah, Perak, Perlis, and Kelantan – submitted applications to the Transport Ministry requesting for tourist buses from neighbouring countries to enter the states.

Kelantan Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Kamarudin Md Nor said that this initiative is aimed at attracting more international tourists and fostering economic growth in the border regions, as well as supporting the Visit Kelantan 2024 campaign. – May 13, 2024
