Labuan MP says they were ‘advised’ not to comment, and it was underwood that the six ‘rogue’ MPs had a meeting with lawyers yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR – The seven “rogue” Bersatu lawmakers who declared their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the unity government have been “advised” not to comment on the letter from the party’s supreme council.

Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman said that any statement on the matter would only be released after the 14 days given by the party for them to respond to the letter.

“Since the day before yesterday, we’ve been advised not to comment. Bersatu has given us a 14-day period. We’ll wait until after that,” he briefly told Scoop today.

It was understood that the six Bersatu MPs held a meeting with lawyers in Kuala Lumpur yesterday to seek legal advice before proceeding against Bersatu’s instructions.

Last Friday, the seven Bersatu defectors received a letter with specific directives to respond to within 14 days

Without revealing the details of the directives issued by the party’s supreme leadership council, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the letter must be understood and endorsed.

The six Bersatu lawmakers are Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tg Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang).

Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari had also declared support for Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Meanwhile, Bukit Gantang Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, when contacted by Scoop, declined to comment on the outcome of yesterday’s meeting with the lawyers.

Syed Abu Hussin said that he is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

“I prefer not to comment at this time…I’m not well and undergoing treatment. I’ll respond once my health improves,” he added. – May 21, 2024
