KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysia team made a clean sweep in the fourth leg of the Hong Kong Squash Professional Squash Association (PSA) Challenge Cup 2024, with young players Joachim Chuah (men’s) and Sehveetrraa Kumar (women’s) crowned champions in their respective categories.

In the tournament held at the Kowloon Cricket Club, unseeded 19-year-old Joachim Chuah stunned seventh-seed Harley Lam of Hong Kong with a convincing victory of 11-6, 11-6, 11-4.

Meanwhile, Sehveetrraa Kumar defeated Hong Kong’s Ching Hei Fung with a score of 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 to claim the women’s title.

Sehveetrraa, a Kedahan who will turn 19 on Monday, expressed her delight at securing her second title after winning the Bondi Open 2023 in Sydney last November.

“The finals weren’t easy, but I managed to maintain my confidence and control throughout the match.

“I believe my game plan forced my opponent into making mistakes, giving me an advantage,” she said in a statement shared by the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia to the media last night.

Both Joachim and Sehveetrraa earned US$6,000 (RM28,242) in prize money. — June 2, 2024
