KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the brutal murder of his wife at their home in Pangsapuri Palma, Bandar Botanik, Klang, Selangor.

In a statement, the Klang Selatan district police headquarters said the arrest was made on June 7, following a distress call received by the Klang Selatan district control centre at approximately 7.58am the same day.

Klang Selatan district police chief Cha Hoong Fong said, according to the initial investigation, the murder occurred around 7am.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the body of a local woman lying on a bed with slash wounds on her neck and right hand. It was found that the couple had been experiencing marital problems,” he said.

Cha said that the Klang Selatan district police’s Criminal Investigation Department has opened an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the penalty of either death or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years, along with a mandatory minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed.

A post-mortem examination revealed the victim had sustained 12 cuts and slash wounds to her left ear, left cheek, left chin, neck, right shoulder, right forearm, left ring finger, left pinky finger, and left side of the head.

The cause of death was determined to be a deep cut to the neck that severed the skin, underlying tissue, neck muscles, airway, and cervical vertebrae.

Following up on information received, a police team from the Klang Selatan D9 Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect on June 7, Cha said.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days, from June 8 to June 14.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Cha said, adding that several witnesses, including close family members, will be called for statements.

He added that the investigation papers will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor in the near future for further action. – June 9, 2024
