KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained eight individuals, including a chief executive officer and two senior executives of a highway concession company, for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes related to the construction of two highway projects in the Klang Valley worth over RM1.6 billion.

The CEO, who holds the title of Datuk, along with the two senior executives, have been remanded for four days until Friday, while five other individuals, who are owners of another company, have been remanded for three days until Thursday.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin following an application by the MACC at the Putrajaya magistrate’s court today.

According to sources, the three suspects from the concession company are two men and one woman, while the company owners consist of five men aged in their 40s and 50s.

All suspects were detained during Ops Lintas between 8pm and 11pm last night while they were present to give statements at MACC headquarters.

“In addition, they are also believed to have solicited and received bribes related to the construction of a section of another highway project in the Klang Valley valued at approximately RM670 million. The total value of the two projects amounts to RM1.6 billion,” the source said.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations), Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, confirmed the arrest of all suspects.

He said that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. – June 25, 2024
