KUALA LUMPUR – E-hailing service inDrive has taken action against one of its drivers following an alleged assault incident involving a female passenger, which has been widely circulated on social media.

In a statement, inDrive confirmed that the driver involved in the incident had been permanently banned from its platform.

The company emphasised its commitment to passenger safety, saying that it was in contact with the victim to ensure her wellbeing.

“At inDrive, we have a zero-tolerance policy for driver misconduct. Drivers found guilty of such actions are permanently banned from our platform, and we will cooperate with the relevant authorities investigating the matter,” the statement from inDrive read.

According to an Instagram post by @mayahere3535, the victim filed a police report at the Petaling Jaya police station on June 13, the same day the alleged incident occurred.

Based on the police report, the victim had booked an inDrive ride from her home to Colony Star, KLCC and requested the driver to avoid toll roads.

However, the driver allegedly began scolding her upon receiving the request.

This prompted the victim to report the incident through the app’s chat support system.

Although the session ended prematurely and she was unable to provide all necessary details, the driver received a notification from inDrive regarding the complaint.

The driver allegedly stopped in the middle of the highway, assaulted the victim with a steel water bottle, and dragged her out of the vehicle.

The Instagram post claims that the perpetrator was brought to justice and fined RM2,000 over the incident. – June 29, 2024
