SANDAKAN – Despite being hospitalised with fractured bones, a local couple here refused to let a road accident stop them from tying the knot.

They held a Muslim wedding ceremony (nikah) in the hospital ward of Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK) yesterday.

It is learned that the couple was involved in a motorcycle accident in Sejati Ujana, Mile 7, on June 26, just three days before their planned wedding day in Kinabatangan, which was today.

According to the hospital’s Facebook post yesterday, Alif Ikram and Siti Nadhira were married in the male orthopaedic ward with their families, close friends, and hospital staff present.

“The highest management of HDOK wishes the couple a joyful wedding day. We hope that their treatment processes will be eased, and we wish them both a speedy recovery. Congratulations!” the post read.

A nurse from the hospital told Scoop that the groom had broken a bone in his leg, while the bride suffered minor injuries, fracturing her fingers. Both were hospitalised temporarily.

The couple received numerous congratulatory messages on their Facebook post, with many also wishing them a speedy recovery. – June 29, 2024
