Police lance corporal Muhammad Alif charged with Nur Farah Kartini’s murder

Authorities believe a relationship dispute between the suspect and the victim was the motive behind the murder

KUALA LUMPUR – Twenty-six-year-old policeman Muhammad Alif Monjani was charged today at the Kuala Kubu Baharu magistrate’s court with the murder of Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah, a former student of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (Upsi).

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or a jail term not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, and caning of not less than 12 times upon conviction. 

The charge was read out to him before sessions court judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohammed Redza.

No plea was recorded as the case is under the jurisdiction of the high court. The court set August 30 for mention.

It was reported that deputy public prosecutor Ku Hayati Ku Haron appeared for the prosecution, while lawyers Aida Jaafar Mad Ariff and Nur Aida Md Zainuddin represented Muhammad Alif. 

Also present in court were family members of the victim and the accused.

The 25-year-old Nur Farah Kartini was reported missing after delivering a rental car to a customer on July 10.

Five days later, her body was discovered in an oil palm plantation in Kampung Sri Keledang, Felda Gedangsa, Hulu Selangor, around 6pm.

Following the discovery, the suspect was arrested the same day and remanded until Monday to allow police to conduct their investigation.

Yesterday, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that police believe a relationship dispute was the primary motive behind the murder.

Muhammad Alif, a lance corporal stationed at the Slim River police station in Perak, was reported to arrive at the Kuala Kubu Bharu magistrates’ court complex earlier under heavy police security. – July 26, 2024
