PARIS – A Brazilian swimmer has been sent home from the Paris Olympics after visiting the Eiffel Tower without permission to leave the athletes’ village, the German news agency (dpa) reported.

The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) said that Ana Vieira left the village together with fellow swimmer Gabriel Santos without permission on Friday.

The trip was reportedly noticed by officials because they posted pictures on social media.

Santos received a warning while Vieira was kicked out of the team because she reacted “in a disrespectful and aggressive manner” when confronted with her wrongdoing.

“We are not here for fun or on holiday. We are here to work for Brazil, for the more than 200 million tax payers who are working for us,” Brazilian media quoted swim chief Gustavo Otsuka as saying. – July 30, 2024
