KUALA LUMPUR – The Safe Sports Code Course module will be included as one of the components in the National Coaching Licensing Scheme and the National Coaching Certification Scheme run by the National Sports Institute.
The Youth and Sports Ministry said the course was implemented to help all stakeholders involved in sports to better understand and implement matters contained in the Safe Sports Code.
“The Youth and Sports Ministry hopes that the implementation of this code will receive the full support of the community to ensure that the rights and welfare of athletes and the sports community are always protected and that there are no more unwanted incidents that may affect the development of sports as a whole,” according to the ministry.
The ministry said this in the Dewan Negara’s oral answer session, which was uploaded on the Parliament’s website today in response to Senator Amir Md Ghazali’s question on the latest status of national football player Faisal Halim and the steps taken to prevent the tragedy that befell him from happening again.
The Safe Sports Code was introduced in March 2023 as an effort to ensure that the entire sports community is free from all forms of abuse and harassment.
The code, among other things, outlines the responsibilities that must be carried out by the entire sports ecosystem to ensure a safe sports environment and also provides a reporting mechanism to handle any related issues.
Regarding the latest development on Faisal Halim, the Youth and Sports Ministry said that he has returned to a light training session with Selangor FC in addition to undergoing rehabilitation sessions according to the schedule set by medical experts.
The ministry also expressed hope that the investigation into the attack on the 26-year-old player could be expedited and the perpetrator brought before the court to show that the matter is serious and should not happen in the field of sports.
“The ministry does not have the authority to intervene in the investigation carried out by the police,” according to the ministry. – July 31, 2024
