KUALA LUMPUR – The disappearance of a female teacher, Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi in Melaka eight months ago, was finally answered after police confirmed that an incomplete body discovered on December 31 in Pulau Sebang, Melaka, belonged to her.
Alor Gajah district police chief Ashari Abu Samah said the confirmation was made following a DNA test on August 2.
The results of the test were a match between DNA from the body and Istiqomah’s mother.
Ashari also said that a married couple, aged 36 and 37, were arrested in Chemor, Perak, following intelligence work done by Melaka, Johor and Alor Gajah police in relation to the missing teacher’s case.
“The investigation into both individuals has led to the discovery of missing body parts of the victim in an area near the site where the body was found.
“Both individuals have been placed under remand for seven days, starting August 6 until 12, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder which is punishable by the death penalty if found guilty,” said Ashari in a statement.

Istiqomah was reported missing on December 27.
