KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will address the rumours surrounding Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani’s departure from the national body after its council meeting later this month.

While not denying reports that the world number 13 men’s doubles duo are turning professional, BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh and Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) coaching director Rexy Mainaky stated that an official announcement will be made following the meeting.

“We cannot comment on this matter just yet. We need to sit down and discuss it thoroughly before making any statements,” Rexy said after a special press conference held today at ABM in Bukit Kiara.

Kenny added: “Please be patient. We will bring the matter before the council later this month. Once we have their approval, we will make an announcement.”

Separately, Rexy confirmed that Sze Fei and Izzuddin, who played a key role in Malaysia’s semi-final finish at the Thomas Cup this year, are still training with the national squad.

“Yes, they are still training with us. In fact, they will be joining us for the Japan Open and the Korea Open,” Rexy said. – August 13, 2024
