KUALA LUMPUR – Former teacher Mohd Fadzly Ariffadzilah has been charged with the murder of 33-year-old Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi at the Alor Gajah magistrates’ court.

Fadzly, 36, acknowledged the charge with a nod when it was read to him by magistrate Teoh Shu Yee, Kosmo reported. However, no plea was recorded, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the high court.

The charge alleges that Fadzly murdered Istiqomah, a fellow teacher, between December 26 and 31 last year on a roadside near Kg Tg Rimau Luar, Pulau Sebang, in Alor Gajah.

The charge was brought under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or a sentence of up to 40 years in prison along with whipping upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nazrin Ali Rahim requested that bail be denied, and the court agreed to this request.

The court also fixed October 22 for the submission of lab reports and the appointment of legal representation for the accused. At the time of the hearing, Fadzly was not represented by a lawyer.

It was previously reported that Istiqomah’s remains will be returned to her family today for burial.

Deputy public prosecutor Nazrin Ali Rahim requested no bail be granted.

On January 6, a headless female body, missing both hands and feet, was discovered in a trash bin along the Alor Gajah-Tampin road near Kg Rimau, Pulau Sebang, Melaka.

Eight months later, on August 12, Ashari confirmed that the body had been identified as Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi, 33, a teacher who had been reported missing since December 27, 2023.

Following this development, the special investigation division (D9) of the Melaka criminal investigation department (CID), along with the Johor and Alor Gajah police headquarters CID, arrested a man and his wife, aged 37 and 36, in Chemor, Perak. – August 19, 2024
