KUALA LUMPUR – Search-and-rescue operations for a 48-year-old Indian citizen are underway after the woman fell into an approximately 8m deep sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India in the city centre here.
In a statement today, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said a Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team unit and its K9 unit are on scene to aid the operation.
The department had received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.22am.
Subsequently, the department’s trucks and motorcycles, as well as 15 personnel, were deployed as first respondents to deal with the emergency.
According to operations commander Mohd Riduan Akhyar, upon arrival at the incident scene in front of the Malayan Mansion, it was found that the victim had fallen into the sinkhole and was buried underground.
Based on images provided to the media by the department, crowds of people have gathered near the incident scene while fire and rescue personnel carry out the operation. – August 23, 2024
