KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton World Federation (BWF) confirmed today that they have received an official report concerning allegations made by Denmark’s world number three Anders Antonsen against his former coach Joachim Persson.
However, as the case is now under the purview of the BWF Integrity Unit, the world body cannot provide further comments while the investigation is ongoing.
“The BWF is aware of the statement made by Anders Antonsen, as well as the nature of its contents, and can confirm that we have received an official report regarding this incident.
“As this matter is now being handled by the BWF Integrity Unit, and in line with our standard procedures for managing integrity-related matters, the BWF is unable to comment further while the investigation is in progress,” BWF said in a brief statement.
Earlier today, Malaysia Open champion Antonsen took to social media to confirm that he has parted ways with Persson due to a betting scandal.
Antonsen, the reigning European champion, alleged that Persson – who has a history of betting and irregular match results – was caught placing a bet on a match in a recent tournament which is a clear violation of BWF regulations for coaches and players.
In 2018, the BWF suspended two Malaysian shuttlers – former world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli and Tan Chun Seang – from all badminton activities for 20 years and 15 years respectively, after they were found guilty of match-fixing. – August 24, 2024
