Tze Yong resumes light training after back surgeries

National men’s singles player under rehabilitation; expected to return to BWF World Tour events next year following injury-induced Olympic absence

KUALA LUMPUR — National men’s singles player Ng Tze Yong has begun light training with the national squad camp over the past two weeks, according to Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) coaching director Rexy Mainaky.

Rexy said that the 24-year-old still needs to undergo rehabilitation following two back surgeries in February and April.

“He is already training (and) but not fully (all out). If he comes here (ABM), it may be only for one-hour maximum.

“Tze Yong has no problem moving but (still) needs rehab to develop his strength back (as before),” he told Bernama when met at the academy in Bukit Kiara here today.

The 56-year-old coach said the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist is expected to participate in tournaments on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour calendar starting next year. 

Tze Yong previously experienced back pain from an injury sustained at the 2024 Badminton Asian Team Championships (BATC) in Shah Alam, Selangor, in February. 

This injury prevented him from making his debut at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. — September 17, 2024
