HRD Corp training programmes: RM3 bil fund for upskilling three million Malaysians

Increase in fund allocation aims to provide opportunities for underprivileged communities, with new allowances and enhanced levy usage for employers

KUALA LUMPUR — Some three million Malaysians are expected to benefit from Human Resource Development Corporation’s (HRD Corp) RM3 billion fund allocated for upskilling.

While tabling the Supply Bill 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Tambun-PH) said the fund will provide up to three million training opportunities, especially for underprivileged communities.

This marks a significant increase from RM1.6 billion allocated for the same purpose last year.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, revealed that HRD Corp will allocate a special fund of 15% of the total levy collection to implement the Madani training scheme.

He said employers will also be allowed to use the levy to fund an allowance of up to RM1,000 per year for graduates, including those undergoing skills training through HRD Corp.

Additionally, employers will be permitted to use up to 50% of HRD Corp funds, instead of the current 30%, for the purpose of financing skills training facilities, including the cost of equipment and the renovation of training centres. — October 18, 2024
