KUALA LUMPUR — Sabah Electricity has demanded that an online portal retract allegations of bribery and corruption against the company.
Sabah Electricity is giving ‘Malaysian Corporate’ 14 days to withdraw those allegations.
Sabah Electricity chairman Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau called on the portal to clarify the accusations, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability.
Madius cautioned that misinformation could jeopardise Sabah Electricity’s critical ongoing projects.
“Whoever owns Malaysian Corporate, don’t throw stones and hide your hand—say it to our face,” he asserted, adding, “If these accusations are not corrected, we will take action,” during Sabah Electricity’s recent rebranding event at Wisma KWSP in Kota Kinabalu, the New Straits Times reported.
The Tuaran United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation MP added that this is not the first time Sabah Electricity has faced such disruptions, which he described as attempts to derail the organisation’s progress.
Currently, Sabah Electricity is focusing on the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, a government-approved initiative aimed at stabilising Sabah’s power reserves.
The project, launched in September with the Energy Commission of Sabah’s approval, required a stringent tender process involving companies with at least RM5 million in paid-up capital.
Out of 21 applicants, six companies qualified as serious bidders, with evaluations by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) moving forward by August.
“With TNB’s approval and all necessary processes completed, the project is set to proceed, aiming for completion by June next year,” Madius said, underscoring Sabah Electricity’s commitment to maintaining focus during this critical phase.
