1BestariNet probe focusing on MoE-YTL technical disputes over deliverables: MACC

Tan Sri Azam Baki says assures investigations will be done fairly, YTL's defences will be considered

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has assured the agency’s commitment to conducting the 1BestariNet investigation in a “professional and fair manner for all parties involved”, its chief Tan Sri Azam Baki said in a statement today.

Addressing YTL Power International Bhd’s recent press release, Tan Sri Azam reiterated that “the MACC will adhere to due process” and advised against speculation as the investigation unfolds.

He clarified that the inquiry focuses on technical disputes over project deliverables between the Education Ministry and YTL Communications, saying that “at this time, it is premature to make any judgements.”

Azam also noted that MACC would also consider the defences presented by YTL.

YTL Power previously stated it was awarded the 1BestariNet project, a nationwide educational broadband initiative, through an open tender process, highlighting that its bid was the most technically compliant and cost-effective among 18 proposals.

The company asserted it has adhered to all contractual obligations since the project’s inception. In response to what it termed “malicious accusations” impacting public perception, YTL said it is seeking legal advice to protect its reputation. However, it said that its subsidiary, YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, would continue to fully cooperate with the MACC.

Azam concluded that MACC would expedite the investigation while ensuring fairness and transparency for all parties involved. – October 31, 2024
