KUALA LUMPUR – Initial police investigations have revealed that seven individuals, including four who died, are believed to have consumed ecstasy pills while attending the Pinkfish Countdown 2024 concert in Bandar Sunway during New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the authorities are awaiting toxicology analysis reports to confirm the findings and establish the cause of death.
“So far, the police have received six reports from the University of Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) and one from Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL),” he said in a statement today.
However, Hussein noted that all seven victims attended the concert separately, accompanied by their respective friends and family members.
“PPUM and HKL received seven patients who exhibited similar symptoms.
“Four of them have died (as previously reported), while two remain in the ICU, and another has been discharged from hospital,” he said.
Yesterday, it was reported that four individuals — two men and two women aged between 20 and 40 — died after attending the Pinkfish New Year’s Eve concert in Bandar Sunway.
Hussein added that police have opened four sudden death reports (SDRs) in response to the fatalities to investigate possible elements of foul play or poisoning.
To date, six witness statements have been recorded, with more individuals, including the concert organisers and the victims’ friends, expected to be called to assist in the investigation. – January 2, 2025
