KUALA LUMPUR – Actor and director Datuk Afdlin Shauki has lodged a police report against allegations of misconduct in the procurement of a project under Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Afdlin, who is also a member of the Kuala Lumpur City Advisory Board, denied the allegations in an Instagram (IG) post, claiming that the issue was deliberately brought up to tarnish his name.

He was referring to a recent post that went viral on Telegram linking him to allegations of misconduct in the procurement of a project under DBKL’s jurisdiction.

“I vehemently deny that there was any element of misconduct in the procurement.

“…this is a blatant attempt by an irresponsible party to sully my name. (Their) agenda is driven by none other than malice, contempt, and vengeance.

“I understand that the matter is being internally investigated by DBKL.

“Therefore, I urge all of you to allow the relevant authorities to carry out their respective responsibilities,” he said.

In the same post, Afdlin said that he is prepared to fully cooperate with the investigation.

“I am ready, willing and able to render my full cooperation in any investigation conducted relating to this matter by any enforcement agency. These libellous accusations, fashioned out of hatred, should not be allowed to colour the truth.

“I am steadfastly faithful that Allah SWT willing, the truth will prevail, and justice will be upheld.”

Recently, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif said that DBKL had launched an internal investigation into allegations of misconduct involving an advisory board member linked to the awarding of a RM4 million project.

She said the city council was working closely with its integrity unit to investigate the claims.

Additionally, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has stated that it is prepared to assist DBKL in the investigation of the allegations.

MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki said that, as of now, no investigation has been opened by the agency regarding the claims.

Allegations of misconduct involving the advisory board member began circulating on social media in recent days.

The case involves an alleged breach of governance procedures related to the procurement of a creative content production project for DBKL worth RM4 million, which was reportedly not awarded through an open tender. – January 31, 2025
