KUALA LUMPUR — Residents from houses near a huge fire in Putra Heights, Selangor, are in the process of being evacuated by the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) following the blaze caused by a burst gas pipeline this morning.
Bernama reports that evacuation is being conducted for those at Jalan Putra Harmoni Putra Heights, in Subang Jaya.
Video posted to social media also shows JBPM personnel directing cars out of what appears to be gated community area, as the huge column of flames blazes in the background.
Police, meanwhile, have closed the roads leading to the scene.
Selangor JBPM operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the blaze was caused by a burst gas pipeline, with an estimated length of 500 metres, near a housing area.
“So far, we are unable to determine the number of victims involved,” he said in a statement reported by Bernama.
JBPM received an emergency call on the fire at 8.23 am today.
Ahmad Mukhlis said 41 firefighters from nine fire stations from Subang Jaya, Puchong, Shah Alam, Bukit Jelutong, Cyberjaya, Rawang, Klang Selatan, Klang Utara and Damansara, have been deployed to the scene.
According to a TikTok user with the account Perodua PuchongJayaJeffry, who is live-streaming the fire, the blaze is still raging as of 10 am.
Photos have also started to emerge on social media platforms, apparently by those living near the fire, showing damage to homes.
One netizen shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message from a friend living near the site, who said, “My car mirror, windscreen and wipers and other parts melted.”
In the Facebook group called Putra Heights Residents, a member has also posted a video showing the roof of a house on fire. – April 1, 2025
