KUALA LUMPUR — The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) has mobilised its expertise, including counselling and medical professionals, to assist those affected by the underground gas pipe blast in Putra Heights.
Its Minister, Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, said that humanitarian aid and trauma support is being focused on the victims, particularly children, who are sheltering at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Putra Heights Mosque.
“We have taken immediate steps to send a team under MoHE, including medical personnel from universities with hospitals.
“MoHE has also sent a psychology team to help those experiencing trauma. They are assisting not only adults but also children.
“Additionally, we have dispatched a team from Siswa Madani. These volunteers have been gathered from various universities nationwide, including from Sarawak,” he told the media after visiting the PPS today.
He said that MoHE has also identified students affected by the incident, and the assistance provided will not be limited to cash.
“It will also encompass other aspects such as computer facilities for their studies and registration matters.
“So far, we have nine students involved. We are ready to provide any form of assistance.
“It’s not just about cash assistance, but their registration on Monday can be eased slightly if they have difficulty moving around.
“I have also informed the universities to extend their registration period,” he said. — April 4, 2025
